Frequently Asked Questions

I know booking a photo session comes with lots of little questions—so I’ve gathered the most common ones here to make things easy. If you don’t see what you’re wondering about, just send me a message and I’ll be happy to help!

Q: How long until we get our photos back?

A: Turnaround time is usually 2-3 weeks for portrait sessions and 6-8 weeks for weddings. I always send sneak peeks within a few days because I know waiting is hard!

Q: What happens if we need to cancel or reschedule?

A: Life happens! Retainers are non-refundable, but you can reschedule your session once at no extra charge if you give at least 24 hours notice. I. typicall wait until the day of to schedule for rain because ya know, Virginia weather.

Q: How do I book a session?

A: Super easy! Just head to my contact page and send me a message with what type of session you’re interested in. I’ll reply with available dates, pricing details, and a booking link. A signed contract + retainer officially secures your spot.

Q: Do you require a deposit?

A: Yes, a non-refundable retainer is required to hold your session date. The remaining balance is due by the day of your shoot.

Q: What should we wear for photos?

A: I’ll send you a style guide once you’re booked! In general, I recommend soft, neutral colors, comfortable outfits, and avoiding loud logos or busy patterns. Most importantly—wear something that feels like YOU.

Q: Where do sessions take place?

A: I will send a location guide once your session is booked with some of my favorite options. I am also open to hearing any ideas you have. I do in-home and studio sessions as well if you are wanting something indoors.

**I am open to travel for an additional fee**

Q: Do you help with posing?

A: 100%! I don’t expect you to be a professional model. Don’t worry about what to do with your hands—I’ll guide you with natural prompts and fun movement so your photos feel candid, not stiff.

Q: What in the world do we wear?

A: The most important thing is that you feel incredible in what you wear—and that starts with being comfortable. That said, there are definitely outfit choices that can add a little extra magic to your session and make the memories even sweeter when you look back on them.

Neutrals are timeless!

  • Flowy skirts / maxi dresses or simple, classic basics matched with textured overlays (scarfs, kimonos, cardigans) photograph really beautifully.

  • Pretty, pretty please don't wear shirts with big graphics / logos, / lettering - or mixing too many different patterns… and most importantly… please ditch the classic matching white or black t-shirt and jeans combo

  • It’s always nice if your family can wear complimentary colors - but not matchy-matchy!!  Mom, it’s usually easier if you can pick your outfit first (take this opportunity to go out and buy yourself something you love and feel AMAZING in!) and coordinate the rest of the family around YOU.

  • Consider the location where you will be having your photo session when choosing your outfit - eg. shoes and socks for a session at the beach is not going to be practical!

Still stuck? Just let me know, I love planning outfits!!
